Back to porridge

Scotts porridge oatsI got a bit tired of porridge every morning, even when I tried to “spice” it up with jam, raisins, bananas etc.

So I tried some bran flakes which I soon found out is not enough for me. 20min into my commute all my energy just drained away and the last quarter of the ride took longer than the first bit of the commute. Even with upping the intake I was drained even before I arrived.

With portion of porridge in the am I can easy go all the way to lunch time. So what can I do to make it more taste full and different in the am so that I don’t get tired again?

  • Maybe try some Birchermuesli? Soak muesli in apple juice instead of milk (leave it overnight if you want) and then plop a bit of yoghurt on the top. Nommy.

  • Apple, Banana and Sultana Porridge

    Ingredients

    250ml water
    1/2 small apple, chopped
    1/2 banana, halved and sliced
    2 tablespoons sultanas
    pinch salt
    1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
    50g porridge oats
    1 tablespoon oat bran
    honey to serve (optional)

    Preparation method

    1.In a saucepan, combine all ingredients; bring to the boil. Cook for 5 minutes, or until oats are tender, stirring occasionally. Drizzle with honey to serve if desired.
